Jam camp- Take a tour through pop music history with this in depth dive into music across the generations. Each day will begin with a presentation on a new song that will cover it's structure, harmony, melody, and rhythmic attributes. There will also be discussion regarding the production of the song and it's historical value. Charts will be worked over to prepare students for the second hour, which will consist of break-out sessions specific to each instrument. During this hour students will get to work with a specialist on their instrument who will help them learn their specific parts in preparation for the end of the week virtual performance. The last hour of each day will be a rotating list of specialty topics that will include recording, improvisation, songwriting, and theory. All students will be guided towards recording their parts for each song which will then be added to a group video recording to be presented after the week is over. Session 1 and 2 will have entirely different music selections, so feel free to sign up for both.
Younger and less experienced students are encouraged to sign up for only the first two hours of the camp. If you're interested in this option, please contact us to discuss discounted rates.

Jazz Sessions- In Jazz sessions, we'll be discussing the mysteries of jazz improvisation, composition and performance, breaking down the barriers to get at the heart of this amazing American art form. Focus will primarily be on the art of the small group rather than big band. We will cover the different roles each member plays, and how these roles balance each other out. There will be a strong element of improvisation, and because of that, a heavy theory component. We will discuss the golden era of jazz improvisation in the 1950s, as well as how it has evolved into what we hear today from the current jazz masters. Charts and backing tracks will be provided to give everyone the chance to play along, but our end goal will be to create a recording that showcases the technical proficiency of each player as well as their improvisation skills. For intermediate to advanced students, but those with less background playing jazz are encouraged to join as well.
